Hot Water Beach, Coromandel Peninsula, North Island NZ

The Departure

We have ARRIVED in NZ! We flew Air New Zealand, which I would highly recommend. The sky couch option allowed us to convert our row into a bed that an adult and child could sleep on together. They gave us a "mattress pad" to lay down first, bedding, and a special seat belt extension, called a cuddle belt that allowed us to still be buckled in.

Drive to Hot Water Beach from Auckland - Jet Lag is REAL

HOT WATER BEACH

After landing in Auckland, we hopped in a rental car and drove to the Coromandel Peninsula and to our Airbnb at Hot Water Beach. It's called Hot Water Beach, because you can dig holes in the sand on either side of low tide to make your own personal hot tub in the sand. Some of the water under the sand is boiling hot, so you have to find the perfect location to make your sandy hot tub that combines cold and hot water to get to that perfect temp!

Digging and Digging

We did it! (not as deep as the others, but served it's purpose 😉)

Got a little chilly at the end - good thing it's a 3 min. walk back to our rental

Dinner at The Hive near Cooks Beach

Sunrise this morning - we were all up at 5am :)
